Running Club
The scope for SCRAM running club was primarily born from the need to develop the endurance capacity for our OCR athletes in order to compete in their relevant OCR races. Since then, the club has seen not only OCR enthusiasts but also has found those who have developed a love for running and overcoming the mental obstacles that running brings. Our focus is on progressing individually but working as a community, pushing our boundaries and reaching outside our comfort zone, something I still struggle with today but also something I wholeheartedly believe to be important on every single level. The weekly session on a Saturday brings us together to support and push each other and makes those gruelling kilometres seem bearable. On top of that, programmes are sent out for individuals who are serious about improving which include long runs, intervals and Fartlek. Our emphasis is most definitely not on the end result, but the sheer satisfaction that comes from seeing beginners successfully completing their first 1km, 5km, 10km, OCR race or even half-marathon. Our mantra is: “It doesn’t matter how fast or how far you’re going. If you’re putting on your shoes and going out for a run, you are a runner, so join our club!” - Gemma Edwards, Level 2 Athletics coach and PE (Physical Education) teacher.
